Renault. One of the best car logo update
In 2015, Mini became the first car manufacturer to switch its logo from a pseudo-3D design to a flat one. Since then, 12 companies have followed suit.
During this transition, in my opinion, Volvo, Peugeot, and Nissan lost something. Mini, Audi, BMW, VW, Opel, Hyundai, Toyota, and Lotus either maintained their positions or slightly improved. Renault notably gained from the change.
Renault could have stuck with a simple shape, similar to Volvo, or remained at the level of Opel, but they went further.
It's great that the designers didn't just opt for a flat diamond shape; instead, they created what seems like two interconnected diamonds — a union and continuous movement in a cycle that captivates the eye.
What's impressive is that the strokes and gaps are of equal width. Only in the areas where the diamonds intersect do the gaps become slightly narrower, creating a sense of volume. This logo is the only one among the eleven that became noticeably simpler (it even lost the wordmark) but gained depth through optical illusion.
